Guest Voices: Church: Love It, Don't Leave It - On Faith at washingtonpost.com
Unfortunately, we live in an age where even Christians see church attendance as optional. This article is a helpful corrective.

What If Starbucks Marketed Like a Church? A Parable
I really am not into all-things church marketing, nor am I into Starbucks (support your local coffee shop!), but this video makes some good points.

10 Ways to Improve Your Church Worship Service
I want to heartily recommend this article by Don Whitney, Associate Professor of Biblical Spirituality at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (my alma mater!) to the readers of this blog:
10 Ways to Improve Your Church Worship Service
One of the benefits of being a church plant is that we can ask ourselves, "How does Scripture say we should worship God?" and then do it! I plan on writing more about what the Puritans called the "Regulative Principle" of worship soon (I apologize for the lack of posts; my wife is injured, and I'm picking up the slack!), but for now, let this article benefit your soul--and your worship.

Between Two Worlds: An Interview with Dan Phillips
I thought I would share with you all this rather insightful comment by Dan Phillips (you may know and love him from the Pyromaniacs blog). This is a wake-up call for evangelicalism--as well as something I need to remember as a church planter.
Between Two Worlds: An Interview with Dan Phillips
"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of Yahweh our God." --Psalm 20:7

Welcome!
Welcome to my new blog. My name is Steve Hills, and I am the pastor of a very new church planting work in Suffolk, Virginia. This church plant is part of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV) church planting family. Currently, we are in the "core group" phase and are meeting for worship in my house. I am also leading an outreach Bible study through the book of Romans at the Ugly Mug Coffee and Smoothie (where I also work; I'm bivocational!). This is a very exciting time, and we are eagerly looking forward to how God is going to use us.
This blog is going to be my musings on Scripture, the Christian life, doctrine, outreach, evangelism, church planting, etc. (with maybe a little about good coffee). I know you probably have enough blogs to read, but I hope you will read this one, and I hope something in here helps you in your walk with Christ--or maybe helps you to discern if God is calling you to plant a church. Hopefully, you'll have some comments that help me out, too. Of course, if you would like to check out what we are doing and/or become a part of this plant, just contact me!
