Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog. My name is Steve Hills, and I am the pastor of a very new church planting work in Suffolk, Virginia. This church plant is part of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV) church planting family. Currently, we are in the "core group" phase and are meeting for worship in my house. I am also leading an outreach Bible study through the book of Romans at the Ugly Mug Coffee and Smoothie (where I also work; I'm bivocational!). This is a very exciting time, and we are eagerly looking forward to how God is going to use us.

This blog is going to be my musings on Scripture, the Christian life, doctrine, outreach, evangelism, church planting, etc. (with maybe a little about good coffee). I know you probably have enough blogs to read, but I hope you will read this one, and I hope something in here helps you in your walk with Christ--or maybe helps you to discern if God is calling you to plant a church. Hopefully, you'll have some comments that help me out, too. Of course, if you would like to check out what we are doing and/or become a part of this plant, just contact me!

  1. May God use you greatly. You have a hard work ahead of you but so God is the One who does, you just need to follow His lead. You do that, ad you will do well. Take it from a former church planter.

  2. Amen! I keep thinking of the old Army slogan, "The toughest job you'll ever love." There's a lot to do, especially being bivocational, and it will get busier soon, but I'm loving every minute of it!
